Russ Anderson, the patriarch of Americana, was first introduced to RVs in the early 1950s when his father bought a camper for his pickup truck (since then, Russ's dad has put hundreds of thousands of miles on various types of RVs throughout the U.S., Canada, Alaska, and Mexico). Russ began working in the industry in 1970 when he started Holiday Equipment Corporation. Over the years, he has been involved in every aspect of this business, from designing, engineering, manufacturing, and selling very expensive and luxurious custom motorhomes and fifth wheels, to marketing mass produced trailers, fifth wheels, and motorhomes. He has seen tremendous changes in the industry, and has actually caused some of those changes himself with innovative designs and concepts (He developed the first full basement model fifth wheel and was the number one marketer of Skyline products and number two marketer of Holiday Rambler products in the country by dollar amount). All of his experience in creating RVs and meeting with customers taught him that the needs of the toughest customer in the business, the experienced RVer, weren't being met as well as they could have been, and so he set out to do just that. The result has succeeded beyond his original expections, and he has been flabbergasted, but overjoyed, by the response that he has received! We have developed a Recreational Vehicle that meets the very specific criteria of experienced RVers without leaving the price range they have in mind. In other words, we have learned where to put the money into the coach, and where to leave it out, and in doing so have created a reliable RV that is also a good value. As an example: we know that our customers don't want plastic doorknobs, but neither do they want gold plated door knobs, so our RVs are fitted with high quality, long lasting, metal door knobs. This same attitude is reflected in the mortise and tenon construction of our cabinet door frames, the tongue and groove construction of our floors, and on and on. As you view this website, you will see how we have paid attention to the details that matter most, especially if you are an experience RVer. Lastly, we want to introduce you to our way of doing business. We keep our overheads low and our advertising costs down and rely on word of mouth to advertise our product. Therefore, our very survival as a business relies on the continued satisfaction of our customers. If the word around the campground about our RV is not a positive one, then we won't stay in business. Along these same lines, we operate on a cost plus basis. All of our customers get the same deal, there is no dickering or haggling. This way every customer gets the best possible deal and knows what the real price is right up front with no confusing price games.
